A digital interface for relapse prevention
The StayFine app is a PhD project (https://stayfine.nl/) of Neelke de Jonge in which we developed a data-driven, personalised digital interface for relapse prevention in adolescents and young adults in remission of anxiety and/or depressive disorders. The core of this interface is an automatized personalisation procedure that combines multiple data sources— individual symptom networks (provided by ecological momentary assessment via the app), online questionnaires and diagnostic history—into a personalised set of guided intervention modules within the StayFine app. These data‑driven recommendations are then discussed and fine‑tuned via shared decision‑making with a certified expert by experience. The ongoing RCT investigates whether this personalised interface effectively prevents relapse and extends time to relapse.
This is an example of an interactive app for the individual with automatic responses that is of help for the individuals’ mental health state, but also results in rich, multimodal data to improve the knowledge on contributing factors and mechanisms in mental health. It illustrates how data‑driven personalisation, symptom networks and shared decision‑making can be integrated into a single interface between science and clinical care, and how such an interface can both support individual relapse prevention and inform methodological and clinical innovation.
