Shaping Interfaces Between Science and the Public
The talent case concerns not only contributions to teaching and research, but also an investment in academic and scientific citizenship throughout the UvA and in interaction with public and professional practices.
The RPA will work with a model to develop the seed grants into large scale projects that are eligible for external funding, such as ERC and Horizon grants. This will include a phased approach, starting with an initial feasibility study and a pilot project to demonstrate proof of concept. It will involve feedback loops to refine the goals and methodology. Continuous support and mentorship will be provided to guide the projects through each stage. The RPA Directorate ensures the ambition and the need to develop the projects. Working with Seed Grants guarantees a connection to a variety of researchers and a way to bring talented academics on board.
The RPA will create a vibrant research community through the events, weekly seminars and collaborations with diverse public in society and external partners. An important part of the talent case concerns the development model that the RPA Directorate will apply. Working with seed grants and upscaling them to larger projects and grant applications will ensure the growth of talents and lasting relationships with the Faculties.
Working with the UvA’s Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) ensures lively daily interactions with researchers of different career stages from all Faculties. A weekly seminar at the IAS will connect talents from all faculties to the RPA. The RPA will initiate joint fellowship programmes with the IAS to invite early career scholars, both nationally and internationally, for short-term and long-term research stays.
The RPA builds on the connections with teaching that the IAS has established. ‘Shaping interfaces between science and the public’ connects to the network of early career scholars that are gathered at the IAS Academy and will connect talented researchers and teaching in the new Master Complex Systems and Policy, which is designed in collaboration with the UvA’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (IIS).
