This work package focuses on the use of AI in scientific practices and access to scientific knowledge.

Building on summits hosted by UvA’s IAS with OECD and UNESCO, and two Nature commentaries on responsible AI use, initial guidelines have been developed. These living guidelines, largely adopted by the European Commission, aim to safeguard science and society. The AI tools developed in this WP include a science fact-checking game, a methodology to distinguish meaningful from meaningless patterns, and amethodology for human rights in science.

These interfaces and methodologies will be made effective through testing, user feedback, and iterative improvements. This work package will adopt a human rights perspective (Donders), shape interfaces between science and the public on responsible AI use (Bockting), and apply a social epistemology view on AI (Smets).
